We have been made aware of fraudulent emails sent to members claiming to sell attendee/member lists for Henderson Alliance events. These emails are not from us or any authorised partner. This notice explains how the scam works, shows a real example, confirms that no breach has occurred, and tells you what to do if you receive such an email.

Example of a Scam Email (received by a member)

How This Scam Works

  • They DO NOT have our attendee or member list. Instead, scammers use web crawlers and email “scraper” tools to harvest names and emails from public websites and social media (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook).

  • They collect publicly visible participation info (e.g., exhibitor/sponsor/member lists, event posts) to make their emails look credible.

  • They guess email formats (e.g., firstname.lastname@company.com, info@, admin@) and send mass emails to see what delivers.

  • They often include a fake “unsubscribe” or “opt-out” line to trick you into replying and confirming your address is active.

No Data Breach of Henderson Alliance or Event Systems

We do not sell, rent, or distribute attendee or member lists. Our systems remain secure. These emails are fabricated using publicly accessible information; this is a widespread, well-documented scam across the events industry, not a breach of our data or of the event organiser’s systems.

What You Should Do If You Receive One

1.      Do NOT reply (including to “unsubscribe” / “leave out”).
2.      Do NOT click links or open attachments.
3.      Report it as spam/phishing in your email client and block the sender.
4.      Forward the suspicious email to your IT/security team (if applicable).
5.      Report the incident to the Australian Government at ReportCyber: https://www.cyber.gov.au/report
6.      Delete the email.

How They Mentioned “Henderson Alliance” and “Member Organisation Name”

Scammers typically scrape public pages (e.g., membership lists, event pages, LinkedIn posts) to learn a member organisation is associated with Henderson Alliance. They then personalise emails to sound legitimate. This does not indicate any access to our internal data.

If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, please contact Henderson Alliance via the contact details on our official website. Do not use phone numbers or links provided in suspicious emails.
