Promoting Western Australian
SME Capability to the World
Promote | Facilitate | Develop | Sustain | Advocate
WHO WE ARE
Formed in 2017, the Henderson Alliance is a dynamic and progressive alliance of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) taking positive action to work collaboratively and build capability to create a better business environment, with new opportunities generated in defence-related industries and other specialised sectors of advanced manufacturing.
Focus on Improving SME Capabilities
We have focused to date not just on information-sharing, SME capability improvements and creating opportunities for our members to establish key linkages with the Primes - but also interstate partnering, innovation and R&D activities.
We don't see ourselves as a standard industry organisation - we are run by volunteers and are therefore focused directly on achieving tangible outcomes with as little bureaucracy as possible.
We always take a very positive and collaborative approach - and our Management Board includes representation from outside the industry to ensure we bring in fresh ideas and professional focus.

ADVOCACY
The Henderson Alliance advocates for SMEs by representing the industry on various government boards and forums and maintaining daily contact with key stakeholders.
We also believe WA’s proven expertise in mining, oil, and gas sectors can contribute to frigate and submarine construction in SA. However, this will require government and Prime support to prioritize interstate partnerships over European supply chains or skilled migration.
The Alliance is exploring opportunities for SMEs in emerging sectors like Lithium Valley, the Drone Hub, and the Western Trade Coast.
We advocate for SMEs nationally, promote local content, and provide members with training, development, and partnership opportunities, some of which have led to defence industry contracts.
CURRENT PRIORITIES
Our priorities include working with the government to create a stronger industry structure in WA, with clear focus and shared outcomes.
We will continue to promote WA's defence industry capabilities and its SME sector, particularly in providing components and services for frigate and submarine projects in Osborne. We've already established interstate partnerships to support this.
Additionally, we are exploring exciting opportunities by leveraging innovations from other industries and collaborating with R&D agencies to develop new products and initiatives.
